Pond Plans & Community

A Perfect Pond

One of our main goals at Granville’s Wood is to make sure it’s as environmentally friendly and sustainable as possible. We have a Wildlife Management Plan, and this helps us to focus our efforts. We have also been looking at ways to support our families, creating a community of kindness.

For the last few months we’ve been wanting to add a pond area. This will improve the drainage system and create a source of water for wildlife to use for bathing and drinking. If you have visited the Woods after a heavy rainfall you will understand our desire to manage the drainage!

The pond area also meets one of the Sustainable Development Goals. These have been set by the United Nations, to create a better world for all by 2030. It will be the first time we have been able to look at Goal 14: Life Below Water. You can see our other Goals here.

What Makes Us Different?

One of the unique things about Woodland Burial Company is our small team. All of us have a loved on at Granville’s Wood, which means we have a very strong and personal interest in our business. Claire Lyons, our new manager, is also a expert in personal development and mental health. Supporting our families is a long term part of our service, and this is an area we are currently expanding.

As our community grows, we hope to invite our families and Friends of Granville’s Wood to come and help us. The pond will be the first of these ‘events’. We will be doing the bulk of the digging out, but will be asking for volunteers too. Jobs will include planting reeds, general planting and making the tea.

Our pond will become a communal area, with benches, where anyone can sit and enjoy the peace of the woodland. If you’re lucky you might catch sight of some of our wonderful wildlife.

Holding more community events is one of our big plans for 2021, we have a hedge planting session planned for the Winter and next year hope to invite local groups to really create an area of beauty and purpose.

If anyone has any great ideas, or would like to volunteer their services you can always contact Claire via email, or join the Friends Facebook Group using this link.
