Hospice UK organises Dying Matters Week to encourage people to discuss death, dying and funerals. This is part of our mission too, so we are celebrating this year with an Open Day at our flagship site; Granville’s Wood.
You can visit on Saturday 11th May between 10am and 2pm. Staff will be available to answer questions and several group walks will take place, based on demand and numbers. For a specific time, or if you want to be shown around by a member of staff, it may be better to book a personal viewing with our Funerals & Families Manager, Beccy Edgar.
Woodland Burial
The Open Day is to offer an informal chance to see what we do and how we work. Perhaps to ask any burning questions or simply take a walk around and listen to the birdsong.
Granville’s Wood is currently looking particularly beautiful because the bluebells are forming a blanket of colour. To protect the woodland and the privacy of families who may be visiting, please stick to the main pathways and not enter any private nooks. There will be some pre-prepared nooks to show as examples.
Special Guest
This year we are welcoming Abi from Woven Farewell. She is demonstrating willow weaving, and available to answer any questions about her work and business. You can see several different types of woven coffins too. Dying Matters week is a great opportunity to have these difficult discussions and learn more about the options for environmentally friendly funerals.
