Building our Community
As a company we are able to keep our plastic consumption very low. Consequently, the only single use plastic we come across is in some packaging on products we need to buy. For Plastic Free July this year, we decided to have a litter pick. As we already do this every day at Granville’s Wood, we were confident that it was looking it’s best. Therefore, we decided to keep our car use to a minimum and choose an area local to all the staff and some of our families.
A wonderful mix of staff, volunteers and families joined together for a lovely walk and pick along the canal. We managed to collect four bags of litter, 80% of which was recyclables! Meeting a number of walkers and cyclists, we were encouraged by everyone we saw. Our socially distanced litter pick was so successful we are thinking of making it a monthly social event.
This was a great opportunity to introduce our new Manager, Claire Lyons, to the team. Claire’s son is buried at Granville’s Wood. She will be working part-time, supporting our Director Simon Holden and Site Manager Andy Taylor. With her professional background in Personal Development, and running her own small business Claire is a good fit.
More Changes
Other ‘new’ innovations have been going on at Woodland Burial Company this month. As well as our efforts for Plastic Free July, we have shared our very first Quarterly Newsletter.. You can sign up here for future issues , we will use it to showcase the beautiful woodland and share updates.
We have also added a new page here on the website to share Our Impact. We have been working with Support the Goals, to share the positive impact we can all make with green burials. Everything we do helps to promote the good health of Granville’s Wood, and the wildlife and people who love it. We will continue our Plastic Free July ethos, and hope to reduce the single use plastic to zero over the next year.
Sharing our Message
Finally, Claire has been working with her sustainable network to raise the profile of Woodland Burial Company and spread the word! Using her experience about the importance of keeping our care of the planet at the forefront of our thinking, even at the most difficult time of all. We have had articles in Valyos – Sustainble Marketplace, Greenfinder, and we have our own story on Support the Goals.
Several more are in the pipeline to come, as we share the sustainable choices available at the end of life. Our green burial service continues with a small team, offering bespoke nooks and a strong focus on customer care.
